Ignatius Zhuwakiyi was the youngest of four children born in 1969 in Harare, Zimbabwe and grew up in the St. Mary's township of Chitungwiza where he attended Zengeza and secondary school.

Meeting the sculptor Locardia Ndandarika and spending time on weekends helping her was Ignatius' introduction to sculpting. In 1989 he started to become involved at Chapungu, meeting other young artists, learning new techniques and benefiting from their encouragement and experience.

Ignatius was one of a number of young artists, including Godfrey Machijili, Vitas Muchenje and Axilia Tatisa who organized the "Young Generation" exhibition at the John Boyne Gallery in 1990, and was happy to recieve a B.A.T. certificate at the end of the year.

Ignatius is now a full time artist (currently experimenting on torsos) and enjoys sharing the company and mutual stimulation of others such as Ndandarika and Ronnie Dongo.

Married with one child, Ignatius goes to church, listens to the radio and reads when not working with the stones.

He has exhibited in New York City, and Princeton, New Jersey as well as many exhibitions in Zimbabwe.
