Good Memories
Luckmore Joseph: Born in 1979 Luckmore is a modest likable young man. Originally from Malawi, Luckmore's parents away at an early age. He says their deaths made him realize the fragility of life and the importance of following your heart. He was fond of weaving and sketching as a boy but it wasn't until 1999, when he was employed by artist Sndney Majengwa as his assistant that he realized that carving was of paramount importance to him.

When Luckmore first started carving on his own he focused his work on torsos. Later, as he started to gain confidence and began to pursue his own creations, he turned his attention to less traditional subject matter such as pregnant women and street beggars, experimenting with varying styles. Somewhat of a philosopher, he says he wants people of the world to understand that there is no difference between the beggar and the rich man. Both have equality and the right to live.

Instead of copying his teachers as some artists tend to due, Luckmore has been determined to develop his own style. He continues to experiment with different ideas. His work can now be found in galleries and private collections all over the world.2005: Stone Sculpture from Zimbabwe: Point Pleasant, PA
