Nicholas Chidawu Born in July 1974 in the Seke rural district. Nicholas is the fourth born of twelve children (seven boys and five girls). As a result of his early success in sculpting Nicholas carries the responsibility for his large extended family.

His style is more abstract than most and shows a closer intimacy with the old ways and stories of his tribe, the Shona tribe. His characteristically powerful hands, often depicted as folded across the belly, head or chest illustrates the concept of "center" of internal dynamism that is so apparent in the vitality of Shona sculpture.

Believing the head to be the center of the life force, Chidhawu gives it more importance by not showing it or covering it with massive hands.

He enjoys working in opalstone and is not afraid to let his file and chisel explore the hardest rocks allowing the spirit therein guide his young and instinctive talents.

Nicholas studied under the tutelage of Raymond Chirambadare from 1991 to 1994. He is now considered one of the most promising young artists in Zimbabwe. He currently works with the Chitungwesa Township Cooperative, which is an artist's community located in Zimbabwe.

His works have been exhibited at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, shows in Australia, Belgium, Germany, London, Princeton, New Jersey; Newport, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.
